About Michaela

Seeking therapy requires vulnerability and courage as well as a deep desire to be authentically seen and heard. I am dedicated to providing a comfortable, confidential, non-judgmental, and safe environment to explore your feelings, ideas, and experiences. I use a client-centered approach and focus on interpersonal processes and relationships, attachment, and cultural and environmental contexts to understand you in an authentic way. Every person is unique and valuable. I strive to meet you where you are in your journey of self-exploration while helping you discover opportunities for change. I use a collaborative approach and work to tailor treatment to your individual goals and needs, while integrating how multicultural identities and systemic factors can inform our work together.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and North Carolina. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings. I’ve worked in elementary and middle schools, provided individual counseling at a university counseling center, provided group counseling at an agency focused on children and adolescents on the Autism Spectrum, provided individual and group therapy in a short-term inpatient unit providing residential crisis stabilization for acute mental health issues, and individual therapy in multiple outpatient settings.

I provide individual counseling to adults for a variety of mental health concerns, with a special emphasis on mood disorders, anxiety, adjustment disorder, interpersonal concerns, neurodivergence, and trauma. I also provide individual counseling services for adolescents and teens (13+) and utilize age-appropriate strategies and interventions as well as providing caregivers with resources and strategies to implement at home. I utilize interpersonal process, CBT, mindfulness, attachment theory, strengths-based perspective, and trauma-informed care in my work. I also have a passion for working with women's issues, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and first-generation college students.
